Different types of products require different forms of documentation:
- Mandatory declaration of conformity;
- Voluntary declaration of conformity;
- Mandatory certification;
- Voluntary certification.
To determine which type of document applies to your product - a declaration or a certificate, and whether it is mandatory or voluntary, you need to identify the product's class based on All-Russian Product Classification codeor or TN VED. Compare it with the attachments to the technical regulation and find the product code in the list of items subject to the requirements of the technical regulation. If the product is listed, it requires mandatory certification.
What exactly to obtain, whether a declaration or a certificate, can be determined from the appendix to Technical Regulation Law No. 720. Depending on the type of product, the declaration of conformity has different validity periods, ranging from 1 year to 5 years.
We recommend obtaining a certificate or a customs declaration of conformity in any case, regardless of whether it is mandatory or not. If you plan to import products and have them inspected at customs, it is cheaper and faster to prepare a document confirming the product's quality in advance than trying to prove its compliance with requirements on the spot.
